So, in an hour I'll know where I'm living for three years. I'm surprisingly calm.
Here are the odds as I see them, just for posterity's sake:
Phoenix, Arizona: 72%. Despite negative reviews and blazing heat, the program at Phoenix Children's Hospital was Mindy's first pick. Since it's been the biggest probability for a few weeks now, I'll feel comfortable moving there.
Portland, Oregon: 15%. While this is the best city in the world, I think both of us are ready to try our hand somewhere else for a few years before moving back. It'd be nice to start fresh, but it will be difficult. At this point, we'd even be a little disappointed if we were to stay.
Salt Lake City, Utah: 10%. My first pick, based on the city itself. If we are assigned to SLC, we'll feel called.
San Diego, California: 2%. San Diego has the best weather, but we'd be disappointed because it would mean we'd have to rent a house. It's spendy down there.
Orange County, California: 1%. There are two programs in Orange County, and I'd be disappointed if we got either of them for the same reasons as San Diego.
So, pray for us today. It's been a long four years of medical school, and I'm so proud Mindy is almost done.

Best of luck, Jordan.
praying for you guys...dont forget to update the thread once the shock of "We're going to live in XXX!" wears off...
Jordan,
Residency is an amazing journey. It gives you the opportunity to go somewhere you might not choose on your own and experience other places without feeling like you're obligated to live there for life. My husband is an ER doc. We spent internship year in Texas and then spent the next three years in the Bronx at a level one trauma center. Yeah, it was difficult, but we survived with great memories and an incredible experience medically for my husband. Today is match day for us, too. We are back in Corpus Christi Texas and my husband is on faculty with Texas A&M University. This morning when he was getting ready for work he said, "Hey, today we find out who we matched with!" I guess it goes both ways. No matter where you match, it will be an adventure. Take care, Julie
praying for you, jordan. i'm pulling for SLC too. the whole state is one big family that loves the snow and year-round golf. plus you get northwest division nba basketball, the sundance film festival, and pristine air.
God Bless. You're in His hands wherever he puts you.
thanks again, you guys. i seriously appreciated your thoughts and prayers. we're excited about Phoenix, a little disappointed not to be moving to Salt Lake, sad to leave home, and glad we won't be paying SoCal rent.
I know what that is like. My wife is a pharmacist, and while a residency is not required, she decided to do one. She had to go through pretty much the same matching process. Her top choice was Milwaukee, even though I would have preferred it to be SLC because that was much closer to Colorado (where we would move from). I know the adjustment can be weird for the spouse that isn't in the residency. I'm still trying to get connected out here and my wife easily works more than 60 hours a week. It can be tough, but also very rewarding. Thank God residencies don't last forever though. We are done here in July and we might hang around for another year. I hope you both can feel at home in Phoenix. God be with you. Enjoy the blog.
Bryce
