While surfing on ESPN.com, I came across this article

I know personally, being a middle-class white kid from suburban Canada, stories about gang violence sometimes seem like they get blown up a bit for shock value.

I'm not saying I think gang-violence is not a problem, it just comes across that way sometimes. Even in Toronto, where we set a city record for gang related killings last summer, it was starting to sound movie-ish. This may be because I am not known to frequent areas where this kind of thing happens, seeing that I'm in bed by 11 and all.

But this story really makes you think. I won't spoil it for you, but know it's worth the read.

There are some things in life for which there is no explanation. Or maybe, the explanation just doesn't do the pain justice.

The one line that really stuck with me was, "Jas believed me when I told him that if he did everything right, it would be okay...and look what happened."

It is sad that it takes something like this to show me how lucky I really am.

I live in LA; this story has tormented me from the day the murder was reported. I read the story about his funeral in LA Times and wept. There's just nothing good about it. Nothing. We hear gunshots from our house on the hill. Gangs everywhere. It's hard to imagine NT Wright's vision of a redeemed world with all this going on.

Ahhh...this made me cry. My heart goes out to Jas's family. I am so sorry.
