The Patriot Study Bible seems to have done the unthinkable. They've built a study Bible, not to help unpack the meaning of scripture, but to advance the notion the myth of American excluvism.

I've been reading Greg Boyd's pre-reviews on his own blog for a week or so when he announced he was reviewing it for Out of Ur. He said he took something like 17 single-spaced pages of notes. And from all the blog posts I've read before this one, I'm glad he has the courage to stand up and speak truth.
Yesterday in church, one of the worship leaders said that we should use our in service thanking God for the soldier's who died so we could worship freely. I bowed my head and cringed and prayed that we may realize that God calls none us to promote our own kingdom. I really wanted to stand up against that statement, but I lacked the courage to do so but probably an ounce of wisdom telling me it was not really the time and place.

I read this probably 7 minutes ago, and I am still surprised.
It disturbs me to see Thomas Nelson Publishers capitalizing on this concept.
I'm not convinced that we should judge the book by its cover, so to speak. I know we have been inundated over the years with some pretty ridiculous ideas regarding America's place in the world.
However, I have no problem with the idea that God has blessed us in ways that He hasn't blessed a whole lot of other nations. Why, I don't know. I imagine he has a purpose/calling for us as a nation just as He does for individuals. And I imagine we have blown it in some ways, and come through in some others.

I just read it, and while it does enlighten me regarding the problems that this bible has, I have to say I don't agree with a lot of Boyd's assumptions outside the scope of this bible.
I'm not on the same page with his open theism/process theology. Even so, he's a brother w/ important insights on this topic.
Yeah, Open Theism is a big red flag for me. But while he does have some important thoughts to share and which should be sonsidered, I think he's wrong on some things. I posted a comment on his review of this bible.
